Here's the story.......
I've been wanting to hunt with my little bro for a long time, so at the age of 22, he finally took hunters safety (that was last year). This year he bought a rifle and a bow, so we can do as much hunting together as possible.
As everyone knows, I took my bear last Friday, so he and I went out today looking for his. We got to our spot and hiked in. Our plan was to hunt an area we found last time we were out there. As we got there, we walked a trail through some trees, which put us out onto an old logging road. By the looks of it, you can tell that it hasn't been used for vehicles for quite some time. We continued to hike the old road for a few miles around bends, straight a ways, and hills. We passed a gut pile and tons of bear sign...we could tell it was definitely a good area.
It finally opened up, with a hill on the back side. We walked a trail up over the top and it put us on another old road. We took a break for a few, had some laughs, and then decided to walk some more. By this time it's about 7 PM. We walked that road for about 500 yards, and were looking into some clear cuts. We were almost through the last one and out of the corner of my eye, I saw BLACK. I sat there and looked at it for a few, then used my binos, and yup, it was a bear. Took out the range finder, and it was at 134 yards.
I ducked down behind some bushes, and grabbed my brother. He got into position and leaned up against a log, but the log broke..so funny.

The bear was still there just eating berries. Finally, he just said screw having something to lay the gun on. He stood up, took aim, and fired free hand at 134 yards. He dropped it. The bear didn't move -- it was absolutely AWESOME!
So, now it was getting it out of there, considering we were so far back there. We could see there was a gate over the hill, so we got the bear to there. We put the bear into some shade, took off our packs, and my bro jogged 2 miles down the main road to his truck. LOL. I think he was running on pure adrenaline because he was only gone about 15 minutes. LOL
I have to tell you, as corny as it sounds, this was such a great moment in my life. To do something like this with your little bro, man...it's priceless. I've been proud of him for a number of reasons in his life, but I tell ya...this tops it!
He was so pumped. To see the smile on his face and the pure joy, was something I'll remember forever.
Now I'm going to work with one of my best buds to help him get a bear. It'll be his first as well.....good times!
At any rate...here are some pics.
